BIG SNOW RESORT OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Ski season opens at the Upper Peninsula’s Indianhead and Blackjack Mountains Friday Dec. 16

Big Snow Resort, Wakefield, MI, December 15, 2016—Officials at Big Snow Resort will open access to skiing on Indianhead and Blackjack Mountains this week. The two popular ski and boarding areas in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are united under one brand: Big Snow Resort. Two mountains, Indianhead and Blackjack, have combined services and amenities to offer the most complete skiing and boarding experience for families just getting introduced to the sport to the advanced skiers and boarders.

According to Barry Bolich, General Manager at Big Snow Resort, there are 18 inches of fresh snow on the trails with more forecasted for this weekend.

“Many of our runs are open and with Mother Nature’s cooperation, we’ll be opening more as the weekend progresses,” Bolich said. Both Indianhead and Blackjack Mountains are open daily from 9 am-4 pm, December 16-January 1, with extended hours for night skiing at Blackjack Mountain December 28-31 until 8 pm. Early season lift tickets are discounted through December 25 with a one-day adult lift ticket as low as $49/person. Plans are also confirmed for a New Year’s celebration to include live music, parties for adults, teens and kids, and night skiing that concludes with a torchlight parade on the slopes and fireworks over the mountain.

The two mountains offer 410 skiable acres with 56 trails, 15 lifts and activities for the entire family. Located near Lake Superior, the mountains average 17-feet of fresh snowfall annually making the destination one of the most popular for those seeking a “real snow” experience.

After January 2, 2017 normal operating hours are:

  • Indianhead Mountain: Open daily with chairs running 9 am-4 pm
  • Blackjack Mountain: Open Thursday-Sunday 9 am-4 pm, with extended hours until 8pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.
